Chief Technology Officer

Job Overview

Our client is South Africa’s leading property group.  We are looking to recruit an experienced Chief Technology Officer, who will be instrumental in “future proofing” and leading this dynamic business into the digital age.

 

STRATEGY:

  • Advise the CEO and the leadership team on technology decisions in support of business goals.
  • Assist with key contributions to formulate the company’s business and digital strategies.
  • Successfully develop and deploy IT strategy and governance model.
  • Develop technical aspects of the company’s digital strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals.
  • Conceptualize and develop strategic plans to implement objectives of the information technology needs of the company, to ensure that the computer capabilities are responsive.
  • Communicate technology strategy to CEO and Board of Directors when/if required.

 

LEADERSHIP:

  • Must have lead a diverse team with varying skillsets to match business requirements.
  • Must be able to “translate” business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Similarly, must be able to “translate” technical output (products and services) into usable business functions.
  • Plan technical architecture, investments and solutions to ensure alignment with company business objectives.
  • Prepare and monitor IT operational budgets that meet prevailing objectives and constraints.
  • Develop and execute an analytics program that will allow company business leaders to make data based decisions.
  • Build strong relationships with business groups and their leaders across the enterprise, and develop a detailed understanding of their issues, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Implement the most appropriate and effective IT organizational design to support and engage with the business.
  • Ensure transparency and collaboration between the IT organization and its business partners.

 

CHANGE MANAGEMENT:

  • Oversee, develop, design, and implement new applications and changes to existing computer systems and software packages.
  • Lead assessment of new computing technologies to determine the potential value for the company.
  • Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform the necessary improvements and adjustments to technology.

 

IT OPERATIONS:

  • Help determine capital investment parameters, priorities, and risks for enterprise-wide IT initiatives to maximize the return on investment.
  • Direct the design, planning, implementation, and maintenance of the computing infrastructure that supports the company’s operations and business applications.
  • Develop, review, and certify all back-ups and disaster recovery procedures and plans.
  • General IT support to ensure timely, effective and high-quality services to the business.
  • Build quality assurance and data protection processes to ensure security and privacy of information systems, communication lines, and equipment.
  • Discover and implement new technologies that yield a competitive advantage.
  • Monitor the industry for developments in IT operations; evaluate and implement relevant new tools and service management frameworks.
  • Help departments use technology profitably.
  • Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency.
  • Monitor KPIs and IT budgets to assess technological performance.
  • Direct the design, planning, implementation, and maintenance of the computing infrastructure that supports the company’s operations and business applications.
  • Establish metrics for managing IT effectiveness and for measuring the impact of IT on the business.
  • Establish appropriate service levels and the processes to ensure that KPIs are met.
  • Maintain oversight of all IT projects, ensuring that commitments are properly planned, staffed, monitored and reported.
  • Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Establish and enforce IT policies, processes, portfolio management, development standards, and methodologies.

  • Must demonstrate or showcase the ability to transform company into a platform business.
  • Must showcase previous work with respect to digitizing business functions.

 

CURRENT IT TEAM:

  • CTO – Oversees all aspects of technology. Part of ExCo and reports to CEO.
  • IT Manager – Oversees technical aspects of technology. Includes managing vendors against roadmap, targets and budgets.
  • Customer Support Manager – Implement training & education of IT products & services, “sell” the benefits of IT services provided to network. Manage support call volumes.
  • 2x IT Support personnel – Day-today operational maintenance and network support of existing products and services.
